Rockville, MD, March 26, 2007 — SECO USA, Inc. announced today it has joined the EDGE™ Innovation Network, a collaborative, open-environment initiative that enables industry, academia and government to work together to enhance the delivery cycle of technology and innovation to the warfighter. The EDGE provides members with facilities and laboratories for developing and testing technologies, products and systems to equip a new breed of warfighter who is mobile, connected and informed.
“We are excited to become a member of the EDGE Innovation Network,” said Knut Skare, CEO of SECO USA. “SECO USA strives to be leaders of low-power, embedded systems and to change the size, weight and power and cost (SWaP-C) equation that limits the dismounted soldier today. We look forward to working with other EDGE members and contributing to solving the problems the warfighter faces on a daily basis.”
Richard Coupland, EDGE Innovation Network director said, “By aligning technologies and innovations from EDGE members like SECO USA, with requests and feedback from warfighters and programs, we can deliver new and relevant capabilities to the warfighter faster than typical acquisition cycles currently allow.”
More than 40 projects have been either fielded or positioned as a technology insertion into a military program of record as a result of EDGE collaboration. Projects underway for 2008 include Physiological Status Monitoring (PSM), a body-worn sensor that monitors a warfighter’s physical and psychological health; improved distribution of video and digital imagery sent between soldiers and their leaders; and improvements in power cells reducing weight and increasing battery life needed to power essential warrior communications and navigation systems.
Members recently joining the EDGE include: Cisco Systems, Inc., San Jose, Calif.; Hidalgo, Ltd, Cambridge, England; Intel Corporation, Chandler, Ariz.; Micro Power Electronics, Inc., Beaverton, Ore.; and Nacre AS, Trondheim, Norway.
The EDGE Innovation Network facility officially opened in Scottsdale, Ariz., December 2006. There are currently over 58 EDGE members. More information can be found on the Internet: www.EDGE-innovation.com.
