Rockville, MD (January 20, 2011)– SECO USA, a leading provider of low-power embedded systems and designs for OEMs of mobile devices has been named a 2010 Windows Embedded Excellence Award winner for a custom medical device design used to detect HPV in women in developing countries. The annual award is comprised of six categories within the North American region and recognizes Windows Embedded Partners who have positively contributed to, and enhanced the Windows Embedded community though their designs and products. SECO USA was chosen as an Innovation of the Year for their custom solution that integrated Windows Embedded into the medical device design.
The winning design by SECO USA completed the first semi-automated assay test of its kind, as a control mechanism to guide minimally trained persons through the process of diagnosing HPV-positive women in developing countries. The device provides an easy-to-use interface that verifies component hook-up and provides instructions, test status and same-day results in a language-ambiguous format. By doing so, the portable assay test, combined with the control interface – acting as a virtual chemist, women in developing countries, who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the test, can be diagnosed. SECO USA recommended the use of Microsoft Windows Embedded CE as it provides a seamless, real-time monitoring system for detection of equipment failures. Additionally, Windows Embedded CE allowed SECO USA to utilize standard Win32 programming, eliminating any potential time barriers an providing chemists the ability to quickly and easily install application updates.
“We hold our Gold Level partners to the highest standards in the industry,” stated Valerie Olague, group regional marketing manager at Microsoft. “As a decade long Windows Embedded Partner, and now an Excellence Innovation winner, SECO USA has cemented their value and mark as a leader in embedded community.”
“As a long time member of the Windows Embedded Partner Program, we believe in the value of Microsoft’s products in the embedded market,” stated Dan Rowland, SECO USA CTO. “We focus on providing our customers the best hardware solutions that enable them to quickly get to market and provide innovative products to their customers; that begins with using reliable products such as Windows Embedded Standard and Windows Embedded Compact.”
